Saturday mornings are my favourite time to go thrifting, and I've developed a tried-and-tested route around Manchester that never fails to yield some great finds. My day starts with a strong cup of tea at home, accompanied by a quick browse through social media to see what's trending. Then, I set off towards Wilbraham Road, where the first stop is the BHF charity shop.
The BHF shop is always a good starting point, as it's usually well-stocked with a variety of donated items. On my last visit, I managed to snag a lovely linen shirt for £4, which is perfect for layering under cardigans or jackets. It's not the most exciting find, but it's a great addition to my wardrobe, and the price was unbeatable.
Next, I head to Sue Ryder on Burton Road, which is always a bit of a lottery. Sometimes you'll find some amazing pieces, while other times it's a struggle to find anything worthwhile. On this particular Saturday, I didn't find anything that caught my eye, but that's all part of the thrifting experience – you can't win every time.
I usually save Oxfam on Oxford Road for a different day, as it's a bit out of my way, but it's always worth a visit. The staff is friendly, and the store is always bustling with students and locals browsing through the racks.
After a few hours of thrifting, I head back home, tired but exhilarated from the hunt. Sometimes I'll stop for a coffee at one of the independent cafes in the Northern Quarter, to recharge and plan my next move. It's days like these that remind me why I love living in Manchester – the community is vibrant, and the charity shops are always full of surprises.
