I've been thinking a lot about this blog lately, and I realized that I've never really talked about why I started it in the first place. I think it's time to share the story behind fiaquinn.co.uk, and what inspired me to start writing.
It all began with a conversation I had with my friend Rachel. She's always been a bit of a straight-talker, and she told me that I was producing better content for someone else's brand than I had ever made for myself. It was a bit of a wake-up call, to be honest – I realized that I had been putting off starting my own blog for far too long.
I think I'd been intimidated by the idea of creating a blog from scratch. I thought I needed a proper camera, a white backdrop, a brand – all the trappings of a "real" blogger. But Rachel's words stuck with me, and I started to think about what I really wanted to achieve with my writing. I didn't need all the bells and whistles – I just needed to start.
My first post was a bit of a experiment, to be honest. I wasn't sure what I was doing, or what kind of response I would get. But then something amazing happened – three strangers emailed me, asking for the address of the Oxfam shop on Oxford Road. One of them was a postgrad who had just moved to Manchester from County Galway, and we struck up a conversation about vintage shopping and second-hand finds. It was such a small moment, but it made me realize that I was onto something – I was connecting with people who shared my passions, and that felt amazing.
I grew up in a place where fashion wasn't really a thing – it was all about practicality and functionality. But as I got older, I started to develop my own sense of style, and I realized that fashion could be a form of self-expression, a way to tell the world who you are and what you're about. This blog is my way of exploring that, of sharing my own thoughts and experiences with others.
